AN EVENTFUL YEAR

In 2023, BOMA BC curated a vibrant collection of events spanning Victoria, Vancouver, and the Okanagan Valley. Featuring a blend of in-person and hybrid formats, the Association hosted a total of 47 distinctive gatherings. These occasions provided members with ample opportunities to network, discover fresh insights, and remain up-to-date on the latest trends in the commercial real estate sector.

BOMA LUNCHEONS

BOMA BC hosts monthly luncheons where commercial real estate professionals can connect with peers and learn from industry experts and community leaders.

Throughout 2023, our luncheons covered a range of topics, including a transportation outlook from Translink, the new St. Paul’s Hospital, reimagining downtown office space, the future of life sciences in BC, and the challenges and opportunities of the economy in 2024.

The New Professionals is a networking group specifically for industry professionals who are 40ish and under. The group connects in a social setting, focusing on connection, and career support.

  • TNP Breakfast Club X 3

While most BOMA functions feature a subject or speaker, the Breakfast Club is a casual gathering revolving around building new relationships. The Breakfast Club held three early morning meet-ups in 2023.

  • TNP Book Club featuring Brian Scudamore

TNP Book Club recently enjoyed an insightful afternoon with Brian Scudamore, author and CEO of 1-800-Got-Junk and O2E Brands. Brian shared captivating stories and key concepts from his latest book, "BYOB: Build Your Own Business, Be Your Own Boss," and graciously answered our members' questions.

  • Picnic in the Park

TNP gathered in Stanley Park for a group picnic and a much-anticipated lawn game tournament. Six teams faced off on Corn Hole, Bocce and Giant Jenga for a chance to win a collection of refreshments from North Point Brewing Co.

The Women of BOMA enjoyed another successful year, marked by two well-attended events.

In April, we hosted 'She Matters: A Women’s Health Forum,' offering constructive tips on mental, financial, and physical wellness. Then, in September, we partnered with CREW Vancouver to host 'She Connects,' a social mixer at the remarkable Skyview Lounge in VCII. Quickly becoming a member favourite, these Women of BOMA events continue to foster community and empowerment for women in commercial real estate.

QUALITY BUILDING TEAM

QBT education sessions are available in person and streamed via Zoom. These sessions are designed to equip building operators and those in industry-supporting roles with the latest advancements in technology, regulations, and processes. Held over a lunch-and-learn format, each QBT session provides a platform to discuss and explore innovative techniques and best practices.

In 2023, QBT subjects covered recommissioning, water damage reduction, working at heights, generator maximization, earthquake preparedness, backflow prevention, and more.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

BOMA BC kicked off its first Mentorship Program in the fall of 2023 with nearly twenty participants. Facilitated by Kyle Kalloo, CEO of Strategic Leadership Coaching, the program focused on fostering professional growth and development within the industry.

Through personalized guidance and skill-building workshops, mentors and proteges gained insights and confidence to navigate their careers effectively. The Mentorship Program impacted the first cohort, empowering individuals to excel and contribute meaningfully within their organizations.

BOMA (ACROSS) BC

  • BOMA Victoria Chapter

Founded in 1998 by BOMA BC, the Victoria Chapter was established to advocate for the commercial real estate sector on Vancouver Island.

In 2023, our Victoria Chapter hosted six distinctive events, ranging from a presentation by the Royal BC Museum and a mayor's forum to an exploration of future office spaces, a wastewater plant tour, a lively golf tournament, and our annual Victoria Christmas Luncheon.

  • BOMA Okanagan

In 2023, we revisited the valley for a Luncheon with the City of Kelowna, delving into their 2022 Community Trends Report. Attendees gained insights into Kelowna's exponential growth and the resulting opportunities for the commercial real estate industry. We explored significant themes within the city, including the shift toward a younger demographic, an increasing Indigenous population, and a surge in immigration.

THE FAMOUS FOUR

BOMA BC takes pride in organizing a variety of events throughout the year. However, four events have become the tradition of BOMA: BOMA Ski Day, BOMA Boat Cruise, BOMA Golf Classic, and BOMA Christmas Luncheon. These signature events attract the highest attendance and enthusiasm from our members. They reflect the true essence of BOMA's community spirit.

A WINTER WONDERLAND

In March, our winter enthusiasts eagerly embarked on charters bound for Whistler, BC, for the annual BOMA Ski Day.

After a day of thrilling hills and village wanderings, attendees revelled in refreshments at the Longhorn, followed by a festive family-style feast at Caramba. A big thanks to our event sponsors and various supporters for ensuring a flawless run for all!

CRUISIN’ INTO SUMMER

In July, nearly 300 souls enjoyed a well-deserved getaway at our tropical-themed BOMA "Island Breeze" Boat Cruise presented by Gateway Mechanical.

Along with enjoying delicious drinks and island-inspired finger foods, our most adventurous sailors took part in a dance and limbo competition, followed by a best costume contest.

Many thanks to all who helped float our boat!

A HOLE-IN-ONE

BOMA BC members had a blast at our sold-out annual golf tournament, the BOMA ‘23 Golf Classic! It was a full day of fun with 288 golfers taking on the courses at Northview Golf and Country Club! Along with the much-needed BBQ lunch, the event wrapped up with a delicious steak dinner and tournament awards ceremony.

HOLIDAY CHEER

In December, the Hotel Vancouver was filled with festive energy for our vintage-inspired Christmas Luncheon: Jolly Jubilee!

This event owes its success to our Christmas Committee's innovative planning, our volunteers' dedication, and the generous contributions from our event and prize sponsors. We were thrilled to see over 800 BOMA BC members in attendance!
