As we reflect on the past year, 2024 was a year of resilience, growth, and innovation as we continued to support our members in navigating an evolving business landscape.

Advancing Advocacy and Industry Leadership

BOMA BC continues to be a strong advocate for the commercial real estate sector, engaging with policymakers to ensure practical and sustainable policies. With the provincial election this year, we met with all parties to discuss key issues such as building energy performance regulations, taxation policies, access to utility data and safe, secure communities.

Enhancing Member Services and Professional Development

Continuous learning and professional growth are essential for success in today’s commercial real estate industry. We offered a range of education sessions and webinars focused on emerging trends such as decarbonization strategies, risk management, regulatory compliance and smart building technologies.

We also had the second cohort of our mentorship program, bringing together experienced property managers and building operators to share their knowledge and expertise with those newer to the industry.

Fostering Connections Through Events and Networking

BOMA BC continues to provide valuable opportunities for members to connect and collaborate. Our flagship events, including the Awards Gala, Golf Classic and Christmas Lunch, saw record attendance, reflecting the strength of our community. We also introduced new regional networking opportunities to better serve members across the province.

A key highlight of 2024 was hosting BOMEX, Canada’s premier commercial real estate conference. This sold-out national event brought together industry leaders, experts, and policymakers to discuss key topics such as smart building technology, climate resilience, and workforce development. BOMEX reinforced the importance of collaboration in driving industry innovation and addressing shared challenges.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

Sustainability remains a cornerstone of our strategic initiatives. This year, we supported the industry in decarbonization with the launch of our Decarb Accelerator Program. Our team is working with close to 30 buildings to help them with identifying decarbonization opportunities and planning projects to undertake. We also produced several best-practice guides to help building owners and managers navigate the transition to lower-carbon operations.

The BOMA BEST certification program continued to set the standard for building performance, with a record number of certifications awarded this year. The program also saw its billionth square foot of certified space in 2024 – an incredible milestone.

Giving Back to the Community

BOMA BC is committed to making a positive impact beyond the commercial real estate sector. Your generosity at event raffles and 50/50 draws raised $20,000 to donate, and we supported charities across the province, including the Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society, the Mustard Seed in Victoria and the Kelowna Food Bank.

Looking Ahead

BOMA BC remains dedicated to fostering a strong, resilient, and forward-thinking commercial real estate sector. We extend our sincere gratitude to our members, sponsors, and partners for their continued support. Your contributions are instrumental in shaping the future of commercial real estate in British Columbia.
